Summer Zimmer shoots both color and black and white 35mm film. Once in a while, she still enjoys working with black and white images in a traditional darkroom. Summer shoots with a Canon EOS A2 or an EOS Elan 7, using Fuji film on most occasions.

Summer’s subject matter and approach cover quite a range: still life, macro, and landscape with images often reflecting a love for nature, the outdoors and travel. There is a formal design element to her work that reflects her background in graphic design and need for organization and order. Summer hopes to use composition to create something dramatic or beautiful out of that which at first glance may seem too simple to require attention.

Her most recent photographs take the viewer to the magnificent landscapes of the South Island of New Zealand including mountains, rainforest ferns, sheep pastures, beaches, and forested trails surrounding serene lakes. Recent work also explores design elements of line, texture, shape and color found in both the natural landscape of American National Parks and the manmade landscape of European architecture. There are many familiar images of home in northern Indiana as well, including Winona Lake.

A native of Huntington, IN Summer earned a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design with a minor in fine art from Huntington University. Shops carrying her work include Art & Soul Gallery in the Village at Winona, Cox Studio in downtown Warsaw, and The Party Shop in Huntington.
